If my pets are traveling with me and we are in an accident are they covered?
Under most insurance policies, your pets injury may be covered only if you were not the one at fault. If you are not the at fault driver the other drivers property damage liability (PD) should cover your pets injuries. Your pet is considered your property and insurers consider all damage other than bodily injury to humans as property damage.
There is a company available that does specifically have pet coverage regardless of who is at fault. If this is coverage you would like to consider call your independent agent to find out what is available.
NOTE: The answers to coverage questions are primarily based on ISO forms generally used in Florida by most companies. However, please keep in mind that all companies forms are NOT necessarily the same. Some companies may provide broader coverage and some may be more restrictive. IN ALL CASES, THE CONSUMER MUST REFER TO HIS OR HER OWN POLICY FOR SPECIFIC COVERAGE INFORMATION.
