Founded in 1952 by a group of individuals with a novel idea: to insure mobile homes. They wrote their one-millionth insurance policy in 1966. In 1961, they introduced the first policy designed specifically for travel trailers and added motor homes to their product lineup by the end of the decade.

Foremost went public in 1972. Going public offered Foremost even more opportunities to expand to include boats, motorcycles, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles and automobiles.

In 1993, Foremost Insurance Company developed insurance programs for specialty homeowners and landlords, and in 1999, developed a unique service program for the owners of luxury motor coaches.

Foremost earned the endorsement of AARP to offer mobile home insurance to their members in 1989. Then in 1993 Foremost, developed insurance programs for specialty homeowners and landlords.

Foremost was purchased by Farmers Insurance Group® and became a member of the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies®. With the acquisition, completed on March 7, 2000. Foremost began offering motorcycles and off-road vehicle insurance, including coverage’s for snowmobiles and golf carts. Over the next four years, they expanded their product offerings to also include personal watercraft, boats and collectible auto.
