As most provisions in insurance policies additional living expenses (ALE) can vary from company to company and we recommend you always consult your own policy provision or agent for clarification on what your particular company and policy covers. ALE provides coverage for the “additional” expenses you incur when you must live elsewhere due to a loss to your insured residence by a covered peril.

ALE pays only above and beyond the normal expenses, “reasonable excess”, until the property is habitable. Be sure to keep all receipts and proof of expenses because the insurance company may want you to submit them in order to receive payment for these expenses.
